Shamrock Plants

Shamrock Plants

With St.Patrick’s Day and spring right around the corner, we welcome any excuse for a bit of a celebration! Decorate your home with attractive Shamrock plants (Oxalis regnellii), as we’re fairly certain its clover-shaped leaves will offer good luck!

Adored for its beautiful leaves in shades of green or red and delicate flowers that bloom during spring, summer, and fall. Shamrock plants close up their leaves at night and stretch back open when the light returns.

This simple-to-care-for houseplant, takes a standard dormancy approach; when you begin to see your plant take a turn, it is telling you it needs a bit of darkness to rest and prepare for the seasons ahead. This means limiting water and withholding fertilizer. Know that the dormancy of your Shamrock can last from a few weeks to three months. When it has received enough rest, new shoots will appear and it’s time to move your plant to a sunny window offering bright, indirect light.

Shamrock Plant Care and Maintenance:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light.
  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during Spring, Summer, and Fall months. Allow soil to dry slightly in the Winter months. Ensure adequate drainage.
  • Fertilizer: Water-soluble 20-20-20 monthly during the growing season (Spring, Summer and, Fall).
  • Maintenance: Low maintenance. Regularly rotate the pot so the plant grows evenly. Pinch spent blooms.
  • Growth: This plant will grow 12″-14″ tall and 12″-14″ wide.
