We know that oils can be overwhelming, so we want to break things down for you and feature a monthly oil here on our blog.  We will provide you with information on what each oil can be used for as well as a few diffuser blends.  The possibilities are endless when it comes to essential oils and we want you to take full advantage of all their wonderful properties!

This month we are featuring: Lemon Essential Oil.

Known for its cheerful and refreshing scent, Lemon essential oil plays a key role in eliminating odour and getting your house squeaky clean. We love the sweet, sharp and citrusy aroma that this oil has to offer and that it can be diffused solo or blended with other oils to create a mood enhancing fragrance throughout your space.  Lemon oil also has antiseptic properties which is why it’s so great for cleaning and aids in

Lemon essential oil is cold pressed from the rind and it takes 25 lemons to make one 5ml bottle, or 75 lemons to make a 15ml bottle.  That’s a lot of lemons!  These little bottles of oil are jam-packed with so much goodness and so many possibilities.  

10 Uses For Lemon Essential Oil

  1. All Natural Goo Gone: Add 1-2 drops onto sticky surface, let sit for a few minutes and easily wipe away residue.  Great for peeling off those pesky price stickers.
  2. Air Freshener: Diffuse 6 drops lemon and 4 drops peppermint to freshen up a stuffy room.
  3. Keep Your Fruit Fresh: Fill a glass bowl with cool water, add 2-3 drops of lemon oil and soak for 5-10 minutes.  Drain, rinse and dry.
  4. All Natural Cleaner: Harness the freshening and purification power of lemon oil around your home.  Mix water, vinegar and lemon oil in a spray bottle to create your own powerful all-purpose cleaner.
  5. Hand Sanitizer: Add a drop or two to your hands and rub together.
  6. Freshen Your Laundry: Add a few drops onto your wool dryer balls to give your clothes that fresh lemon scent.
  7. Odour Eliminator: Add a few drops to a cotton ball and put in the refrigerator to kill odours.
  8. Nail Care: Apply to your cuticles to soften them and strengthen your nails.
  9. Freshen Dishcloths: Add 5 drops of lemon to some water in a bowl and soak your dishcloths overnight to keep them fresh.
  10. Deodorize Your Carpet & Rugs: Add 5-10 drops of lemon oil to your baking soda, let sit for a day (in a container with a tight-fitting lid). Sprinkle on your carpet or rug, let sit for 10-20 minutes and vacuum up.

Lemon oil is thought to be a modifier and enhancer and blends nicely with many other essential oils.  Here are some great diffuser blends that all feature the invigorating scent of lemon.

Clean Home Blend

  • 3 drops lemon
  • 3 drops wild orange
  • 2 drops tea tree

Seasonal Boost Blend

  • 3 drops lemon
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 3 drops peppermint

Sleeping Beauty Blend

  • 3 drops lemon
  • 3 drops lavender

Rejuvenate Blend

  • 3 drops lemon
  • 2 drops bergamot
  • 2 drops grapefruit
  • 2 drops cedarwood
