Gerbera Daisies

Gerbera Daisies

Looking to add some happiness into your home? Or brighten the day of a neighbour or loved one? One of our classic favourites here at Anna’s is the Gerbera Daisy, known for their bright and cheerful faces!

Originating in South Africa, this annual is the ideal addition to your tabletop, container or garden. Made to be a great “filler” plant, it can grow 8-12″ tall and 6-8″ wide.

How to care for your Gerbera Daisies

Sunlight: Full Sun or partial shade. Unless they’re in part shade, avoid areas next to walls or sidewalks that reflect the heat.

Water: Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings and ensure adequate drainage.

Fertilizer: Water-soluble 20-20-20 every two weeks

Maintenance: Remove faded blooms to promote budding (deadhead) and divide your outdoor plant to keep it happy and healthy.

The flowers will stay in bloom for several weeks after they initially appear. To preserve them and keep blooms bright and attractive, keep them in a temperature range of 40 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

As you deadhead, you’ll probably notice crowded foliage- thin it out a bit to encourage more flowers by allowing light to reach the crown, where buds are forming.

Soil: Sandy with a bit of compost will encourage flower growth. If mulched, ensure that you do not cover the crown of the plant.
