Crape Myrtle

Crape Myrtle

If you're looking for a perennial that delivers big colour with very little fuss, let us introduce you to the Perennial Crape Myrtle!

Don't let the name fool you! This isn't the same crape myrtle that's grown as a shrub or tree in warmer climates. The perennial variety (also known as Purple Magic or Violet Queen depending on the cultivar) grows from the ground each spring, producing beautiful spikes of vibrant pink, purple, or rosy blooms that flower for weeks throughout the summer.

Reaching about 2–3 feet tall, it's the perfect addition to sunny garden beds, borders, or pollinator gardens. Its upright habit adds height and texture, while the colourful blooms create a striking display from midsummer right into early fall.

One of the best things about Perennial Crape Myrtle is how easy it is to grow. Once established, it's drought tolerant, loves the heat, and thrives in full sun. It also attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a wonderful choice for anyone looking to support local wildlife while adding long-lasting colour to the garden.

Growing Tips:

+ Plant in full sun for the best flowering.

+ Water regularly while establishing, then only during extended dry periods.

+ Prefers well-drained soil.

+ Cut the stems back to the ground in late fall or early spring, and fresh new growth will emerge each year.

Whether you're filling an empty space in the garden or simply looking for a dependable perennial that blooms when many others begin to slow down, Perennial Crape Myrtle is a beautiful choice. Its vibrant flowers, easy-care nature, and pollinator-friendly blooms make it a standout addition to any sunny landscape.
