Celosia can add some vibrant colour, and gorgeous texture to beds, borders, and containers alike. The best part, it is so easy to grow! This sun-loving annual, commonly known as “wool flowers” is perfect for those who prefer a low-maintenance approach to gardening but do not wish to sacrifice curb appeal.
Known to be flashy due to their uniquely-shaped flowers- with some varieties resembling a flame and others more like coral, their whimsical look will remind you of something out of a Dr. Suess book!
Celosia Care & Maintenance:
Light:
Grow Celosia where it will receive at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. It can grow in lower-light situations, but it may not grow as full or vibrantly.
Water:
Celosia requires regular watering when it is initially planted to help it become established. Once established, however, it is fairly drought tolerant and can be watered less often. Be sure to keep an eye on your Celosia Dragon’s Breath during periods of extreme heat and sun as it will require more frequent watering.
Fertilizer:
Use a balanced water-soluble solution every week or so to encourage even more blooms.
Maintenance:
Celosia doesn’t require pruning, but you can remove old flowers as they fade to help keep your plant looking attractive. If you plant Celosia in your garden, don’t be surprised if you get a few extra visitors such as bees, butterflies, and other little pollinators!
