What’s Cooking at Anna’s

Lettuce $ 3.00

Finally, the season of imported, overpriced produce has come to an end and we officially have local, fresh goodies right at our fingertips. With BBQ season at our door and Easter right around the corner, now is the perfect time to familiarize yourself with all the yumminess Anna’s has to offer.

Not only do we have a plethora of homegrown and locally sourced fruits and veggies, but we also support many small food businesses and stock new items regularly. There are so many favourites of mine I had a hard time narrowing it down.

Cocktail Tomatoes $4.00 | Rosemary $2.99 | Cucumbers $3.00

Green Heart Baguette $4.00 |Cluster Tomatoes $4.00 | Paese Mio Strained Tomatoes $4.99 | Paese Mio Fusilli $3.99 | Basil Plant $3.99 |
Sundried Tomato & Basil Bread Dipper $ 12.50

I was blessed with two boys who were never picky eaters until recently. Out of nowhere, my four-year-old insists on pasta or macaroni for every meal. He still lets me pair it with some veggies on the side but I felt much better giving him pasta knowing that the noodles and sauce were responsibly sourced. It was our first time trying Anna’s organic strained tomato puree that is authentically Italian, paired with their Paese Mio fusilli noodles and if I didn’t know any better I would have thought it was made special from Nona. It’s safe to say with a little parmesan on top it was a big hit with the boys.

Another one of our All-time favourites is of course The Garlic Box. Since the weather has started warming up, we have been taking full advantage of the BBQ. One staple in our house is The Garlic box steak splash. They are a Local Grower located in Hensall, Ontario who Grow and specialize in all things Garlic. The steak splash was awarded Best new product in Canada and is sure to impress any guests you may have.

The Ultimate Garlic Steak Splash $8.00

The kids and I are excited watching our seeds grow, dreaming of all our garden will be in the summer however, our 3-inch tomato plants aren’t going to be doing us any favours any time soon. The produce table is always one of my favourite stops when coming into work.  Overflowing with fruits and veggies and a selection always expanding and changing through harvest seasons, makes healthy living seem so exciting.

Strawberries $5.50 | Cocktail Tomatoes $4.00 | Red Pepper Jelly $7.50

Last but certainly not least, have you tried our local Wagner pies yet? Strawberry rhubarb is our personal favourite paired with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s the perfect ending to any day. There are many flavours sure to please that sweet tooth of yours!

Wagner Pie $13.50

Annas carries such a wide selection of food products that we recommend coming in and seeing for yourself. With a range from Coffee and tea, to jams and Fresh local bread, it is the perfect place to find all those small, delicious treasures. A little basket made up with an assortment of veggies and dressings is the perfect gift for any neighbour, mom, or host this year.

Tiny Human Wonder Bib $24.99 | Asparagus Salsa $7.99 | Nachos $6.99

Although our gatherings may be smaller, perhaps our only engagement is those within our walls, it is still so important to feel confident in what we’re putting in our bodies and to know where it came from. Make time for little things like adding small herb clippings to the top of your dish to give it that gourmet look or lighting a small tea light with dinner. Those little touches make it all the more special.
