It’s All In The Details: Winter Picks

It’s All In The Details: Winter Picks

The holidays, especially Christmas, always seem to spark my creativity.  Whether it’s decorating the house, coming up with fun ways to wrap gifts, hand-making garlands and ornaments or decorating the Christmas tree, I love coming up with new ways to add festive touches throughout the house.

Decorating is such a fun way to express your style and personality, and Anna’s makes it easy to achieve any look with their large selection of seasonal pieces that can be used for so many different spots inside and outside your home.

I love decorating our front porch during the holidays, it’s the first thing people see when they come to our house, and there are so many quick and easy ways to make it extra welcoming during this wonderful season.  I’ve always been a fan of Christmas lights, they instantly add a cozy glow to your home that says “Everybody Welcome”.  Installing them on your eaves troughs always looks great but this year I want to try something different.  There are other ways to incorporate lights on your front porch to add that sparkle and warmth; simply string a set or two of lights in your arrangements, wrap them in your garland or weave them in your wreath.  These are quick and easy ways to take your porch decor to the next level without having to climb a ladder!  Take a stroll down the “Pick” aisle at Anna’s, they have festive options in every colour and can easily be added to your porch pieces without you worrying about them surviving the outdoor elements.  Add colour and sparkle to your urns, garland and wreaths by incorporating some Christmas and Winter picks; choose from birch branches in varying heights, sparkly stars, pinecones or decorative balls, there’s something there for everybody!

I love that Anna’s has set up so many different Christmas decor themes to inspire their customers, and I especially love that they offer so many ideas that some of us wouldn’t think of doing.  Anna’s has a large selection of indoor picks to choose from that can be used in so many different ways, and one of my favourite ways is to add them to our Christmas tree!  Placing picks throughout your tree can fill holes and add so much texture and visual interest to any tree new or old.  Add natural elements like pinecones or varieties of evergreen, add glittery picks for that extra sparkle or bright red berries to add that pop of festive red.

Another great way to add seasonal elements to your home is to accent shelves and mirrors with these picks and garlands.  Place them on your mantel, amongst your pictures and decor on your shelves or arranged in a vase.  Get creative and round up a bunch of your favourite picks, ribbon and ornaments and put together your very own holiday wreath!  Add some to your fresh or artificial garland, the possibilities are endless when it comes to these handy Christmas and Winter picks, so get your creative juices flowing and have fun!

I’ve always enjoyed and looked forward to wrapping all of our Christmas presents; selecting coordinating paper, adding ribbon or yarn and adding present toppers is such a fun way to get creative.  I’m a sucker for a cute wrapping paper print, but in recent years I’ve been wrapping most of my gifts with brown Kraft paper.  Not only is it affordable and can be picked up at your local dollar store, but I love that you can add personalized touches like handwritten messages and drawings.  I also like to add ribbon or yarn to each gift and a cute present topper tied onto some of them as well.  Typically the present topper is an ornament or decorative element that is useful, as these little bottle brush trees.  Adding little pieces of fresh or artificial evergreen, rosemary or berries looks cute and festive too!

There are so many colour combinations to work with when it comes to decorating or wrapping.  Think outside the box and add in some non-traditional colours like pink and teal, or go with a monochrome colour scheme with white, black and hints of gold.  If you’re a traditionalist stick to red, green and gold to achieve that old-time Christmas feel, whatever you choose to have fun and let your style shine!

I hope I’ve motivated you to get creative this holiday season, and I hope you stop in at Anna’s to find everything you need to make your ideas come to life!
