This week we are anxious for you to meet the Alocasia ‘Maharani’, a jewel Alocasia known for its beautiful silvery thick, textured leaves. Native to Southeast Asia the Alocasia Maharani has acquired a few nicknames including “Grey Dragon” and “Indian Princess” – another rare houseplant that we’re excited for you to add to your collection!
Maintenance & Care Tips:
Light: Bright indirect light
Water: Prefers soil that is moist but not soggy. Allow the top couple of inches of soil to dry out before watering again. If repotting, we suggest a well-draining potting mix. Requires more water during growing months and less in the winter.
Temperature: 65°F (18°C) -80°F (27°C)
Humidity: Since they are a tropical plant they prefer warm, humid environments- increase the humidity with misting, a humidifier, placing on a pebble tray, or keeping in a well-lit bathroom or kitchen where it will experience natural levels of humidity.
Fertilizer: Use a general houseplant fertilizer with iron every four weeks during the spring and summer. No fertilizer is necessary during the winter months when plant growth naturally slows. Only apply fertilizer to damp soil–never dry, as it will burn the roots.
