As well all know - life has a natural ebb and flow to it. Somedays come with sunshine, and ease and others can feel heavy and hard. This week we want to encourage you to send a beautifully handcrafted card to someone you love. Whether it's a happy holidays greeting or simply to say hello - your card could be just what someone needs. Yes, we all love a thoughtful call or text message but the longevity of love that a handwritten note can offer is endless.
This week we are excited to share with you a beautiful line – Quilling Cards. Greetings cards for a personalized message of love or appreciation, but that can also be kept and framed as a symbol of their memory and their constant presence.
Meet the Founder:
A native to Vietnam, Quilling Card co-founder Huong came from the corporate marketing world. After years of working towards someone else’s dream, she decided to leave the industry and pursue her entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the art of quilling.
Daily business operations, sales, and design development take place in Framingham, Massachusetts. This is also where all cards/products are warehoused and shipped from. As a certified member of the Fair Trade Federation, Quilling Card has assembled three workshops in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where each design is meticulously handcrafted by one of the 300+ local artisans.
What is Quilling?
Quilling is the art of rolled, shaped, and glued paper that results in creating a unified, decorative design. The name quilling is thought to come from the origin of the art; birds’ feathers, or quills, were used to coil the strips of paper around.
The Card Making Process:
Each artist is assigned one design so the designer can get to know the design and create consistency in her work and the final product. Each card starts with a preliminary drawing of what the card will be. Using a slotted needle tool, they “thread” laser-cut strips of kishu paper (high-quality Japanese paper) through the tool and coil it around to create a tight coil. Each shape that makes up a card begins as a tight coil. From there, the coil is relaxed and molded with fingers or tweezers until the desired shape is attained, and is then glued down onto the card. This process is repeated again and again until the quiller has layered on the entirety of the final design.
Endless Possibilities of a Blank Card:
These handcrafted cards are unique and full of life. The designs can stand on their own as works of art or can be customized with a personal message on the blank insert. The possibilities are endless when you purchase a blank card and it is always exciting to use your creativity to write the perfect message.
Don’t just send a card to a loved one, send art!
