Peanuts do best in a warm, sunny site with a sandy open soil. Sow seed from mid May to the first of June about 2.5-5cm deep, 12.5cm apart. Sow when temperature reaches at least 21C (70F). Thin to 25cm apart after germination. Keep plants evenly watered and the area well weeded through the season. Leave the plant to mature as long as possible in the fall, then dig up the entire plant after the first frost. As freshly harvested peanuts have a high water content, hang the entire plant(s) in the garage or basement to dry. Reminder: the drier the peanuts are, the easier they are to roast!
